Exciting proposals for Ouseburn given green light by Planning Committee

Over the last twenty years the Ouseburn Valley has undergone a dramatic transformation from post-industrial wasteland to Newcastle’s foremost cultural and creative quarter.

We have been working with a client for some time on a scheme to create a flexible, high-quality public plaza  including displays, exhibitions and trading in the area.

We’ve been working closely with planning, highways and other Council officers, and as a result, the proposal has undergone design revisions to make best use of the space available for leisure purposes, to create a pedestrian-friendly environment and to maximise parking. This will actually increase the public car parking provision in the local area – together with the various benefits associated with the creation of the public plaza.

The planning application was recommended for approval and was presented to the Planning Committee this morning. Mark Russell and Peter Gillan from our office attended and spoke in support of the proposals.

We are delighted to announce that the Planning Committee unanimously resolved to approve the application.

Members noted that not only did the scheme comply technically with planning policy, but that it could bring great opportunities to the area through its wide range of potential uses for cultural activities. We hope that the scheme will help to act as a catalyst for further cultural regeneration of this area.
